it sounds like all my dreams (2020)
for virtual chorus,
SSATTB distanced soloists
and electronic interludes
Commissioned and premiered by Volti San Francisco, November 2020, it sounds like all my dreams is constructed in nine parts with the following form: live SSA soloists, pre-recorded electronic interlude, pre-recorded SATB chorus, pre-recorded electronic interlude, live SSATTB soloists, pre-recorded electronic interlude, pre-recorded SATB chorus, pre-recorded electronic interlude, and live SSATTB soloists.
The scored sections (1, 3, 5, 7, and 9) seamlessly weave into the electronic interlude material in parts 2, 4, 5, and 8. The limitations of the technology (latency present in Streamyard/Cleanfeed in live performance) and the time restrictions within Streamyard for pre-recorded videos defined crucial compositional parameters. The purpose of this piece is to create something expressive and musical within these constraints and to show the very different nature of three spaces – live sound through video conferencing, pre-recorded sound, and a broader dream/natural world as represented in the electronic interludes.
